Product Description
This volume examines the origins and evolution of Indias foreign policy from 1947 to the present day. It focuses on Indias foreign relations with a number of key regional states Bangladesh Pakistan and Sri Lanka adjoining regions the Middle East and Southeast Asia and the great powers the United States Russia and the Peoples Republic of China. All the chapters utilize the level of analysis approach a wellestablished conceptual scheme drawn from the theoretical study of international politics in organizing the substantive cases. In the introductory chapter the editor carefully spells out the intellectual antecedents of the level of analysis framework and discusses its utility for the case studies. Indias foreign relations are undergoing a fundamental transformation and yet there is an acute paucity of theoretically informed and empirically rich work on the subject. This volume seeks to address that important lacuna and will be of interest to journalists analysts and scholars interested in understanding the foreign policy of an emergent power. Book jacket.
