Four friends celebrate winning the lottery. Just hours later, one of them -- Waldemar Leverkuhn -- is found in his home, stabbed to death. With Chief Inspector Van Veeteren on sabbatical, working in a second hand bookshop, the case is assigned to Inspector Munster.
